The National Building Code of Canada 2015 is in effect and applies to all permit applications, except for buildings designed for overnight accommodation with a total floor area of less than 56.08 square metres (625 square feet) such as small camps and lodges, or even sheds.
The regulation also exempts buildings which fall under the definition of accessory buildings to allow the use of ungraded lumber – lumber which is not stamped - for these buildings.
The Building Code Administration Act was introduced and passed in March 2020 to allow the government to adopt the latest version of the National Building Code and the National Energy Code for Buildings.
Information on the National Building Code of Canada is available on the National Research Council website.
